LOCKDOWN UPDATE

Following the government's announcement, The Poet will be closed from Thursday 5th November until the lockdown ends, which currently is due to be Wednesday 2nd December.

At the moment, we will not be offering our takeaway service during this 4 week period, though appreciate the interest we have already received.

If you have made a booking with us between Thursday 5th November and Wednesday 2nd December we will unfortunately have to cancel your booking - there is no need to call us, we will do this for you.

We would like to take the opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to you for your support during this difficult year - we could not have done it without you! It has been our pleasure to serve you over the last few months since reopening again and we can't wait to see you again in December, all being well!

Stay safe!

    About Us

The Poet offers an informal yet refined dining experience in the heart of the Kent countryside. Set in a charismatic 16th century building, diners can expect food of the highest standards, made using the finest local and seasonal produce and lovingly prepared by a small team of chefs led by co-owner Petrus Madutlela.

In addition to the food, we offer a selection of fine wines, quirky cocktails, and have a collection of over 70 craft gins available.

    BEHIND THE NAME

World War I poet Siegfried Sassoon lived in Matfield and is the inspiration behind our name. Sassoon was awarded the Military Cross for "conspicuous gallantry" and later won acclaim for his writing. We're pretty sure he would have loved our food too!
